Marco van Luijn, aka Mark van Leeuwen, is a freelance graphic designer that specialises in typography, lettering and branding based in Northern Italy.
I started doing graphic design about 3 years ago, doing all sorts of things to practice my skills. Some time later I discovered the world of user interfaces and web design, so I started focusing more on that kind of stuff. I had an awesome time designing apps and websites for friends and clients. I guess that’s how people knew me, as a web designer.
When I got invited to Dribbble, in August 2013, I got to know a lot of interesting people that shared the same love for design as I did. I could have never imagined that a community like that would be so friendly and serious about giving feedback and trying to help me getting better and better.
As the months passed though, I got kind of bored of what I was designing and I wanted to try out new things. I got to know some people who did typography and lettering and they got me into this new area of art. I found out that lettering is a very nice way to express your creativity, especially with creating hand drawn pieces. I think that drawing things yourself, instead of letting your computer do things for you, makes your possibilities endless.
So now I’m specialising in lettering and typography and increase my knowledge in this field. I can definitely say I’m learning new things every single day and I’m enjoying it a lot.
Mark is available for commissions and collaborations.
